Ministry of Health takes an increased interest in the SOS activities
2010-06-10
The Ministry of Health (MOH) has taken more interest in the SOS approach to control sleeping sickness and has formally written to the SOS team seconding Dr. Abbas Kakembo, a principle medical officer with a long standing experience in sleeping sickness control to work closely with the SOS consortium.
Activities involving background briefings with local radio
journalists have started where Dr. Abbas Kakembo and Professor
Charles Waiswa have explained the SOS strategy and the usefulness
of all stakeholders working together as a team. Consequently,
as a change from the initial mobilisation activities where the
Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries took a
leding role, the MOH has taken the lead at the start of phase II
which has also made the local governments of Kaberamaido and Dokolo
to align themselves accordingly to fight animal and human sleeping
sickness in their areas by promoting the SOS approach.
