Two brothers at work

Julius Ogwang
Julius Ogwang started working with Dr. Opondo more than two years ago as a spray person in Alwa sub-county, Kaberamaido district. When the HHS group visited Julius, they were able to see for themselves his significant achievements, and the team also caught up with his brother, Mr. Michael Edonu, who has been active in the spray person network alongside his work as an entomology assistant in Alwa sub-county.
Julius Ogwang tells us: "Most farmers now demand 3V drugs. Those
not trained in 3V usage would be at a serious disadvantage in
finding work".
Julius Ogwang has made significant achievements as a spray
person.
"I bought a ten acre piece of land with the money earned for my
spray and animal health activities. I also bought a plot in Dokolo
town worth six million Ugandan Shillings. I now own a motorcycle to
assist with my profession. In the 2 years of working as a spray
person I have been able to build a six bedroom house and I have
invested some earnings in the establishment of an orange farm
containing 500 exotic orange stems".

Julius Ogwang delights in recounting his achievements as a spray
person.
Julius Ogwang's brother Michael Edonu
As an Entomology assistant in Alwa s/c. Kaberamaido, Michael
Edonu knows the story of sleeping sickness in the area only too
well. He participated in most of the research efforts and, in 2007,
was encouraged to promote the practice of spraying animals on a
monthly basis.
Michael Edonu proudly lists his achievements since becoming part
of the spray person network.
He says: "I have not lost any animals since I started using 3V
drugs, and I am now able to pay for my three daughters to attend
school, amounting to 3,420,000 Ugandan Shillings per year. I have
also managed to start buying some land with whatever I can put
aside once school fees have been paid".
