Sam Ojuka – What SOS means “on the ground” - the story of the spray person
2012-06-25
Sam Ojuka was filmed in the original SOS video - riding his
bike; pump strapped to the back. As a community animal health
worker at the time of filming, Sam did not offer routine spraying
treatments to the farmers in his neighbourhood. However, the
introduction of the 3V system and his subsequent training has
substantially transformed his life. With support from the young 3V
veterinarians and later also from SOS Partner High Heights
Services, he was able to earn enough money from his spraying
activities to build a new house and move from his original grass
thatched house.
Sam's new house also serves as a more secure outlet for him to
supply veterinary drugs to local farmers.
With close supervision from the 3V vets working with them, spray
persons are able to benefit from support and training and provide
livestock owners with the close personal attention and better
advice they need to improve the health of their animals. Some,
including Sam, have traded in their bicycles and upgraded to
motorcycles allowing them to treat more cattle, access remote farms
or villages and thus boost their earning power.
With a family to support, children to take to school and the
health of the cattle in the community to attend to, Sam is indeed a
busy man……what better way to demonstrate how IKARE and Ceva can
help put more entrepreneurial spirit into
action.
